Each performance is site specific and developed in collaboration with local residents and performers, and is designed to highlight the unique and heightened urban experiences that each of us, in different and diverse communities, has – enabling participants to share them with each other while reflecting on their hopes for the future.
Project Trailer
In each performance, a group of performers and people selected from the audience come together to listen and perform to site-specific stories told by both locals and others around the world – stories about the place they are in as well as far away, while engaging with each other through a set of performative wearable technology that engages with their aural and visual senses. Employing participation techniques used in protest culture such as Human microphone, participants help amplify their interactions, first as individuals, and later with other participants and the surrounding crowd.
SUPERMOMENTS emphasise the unique experiences that diverse communities around the world have and the similarity we share, by creating a ‘super moment’ where people withhold their biases and prejudice, listen in to other people’s stories about their relationship with their city, while reflecting on their own urban experiences and hopes for the future through collective embodiment in the public performance. Together, as performers and audience share their own stories and embody each other’s experiences, they form a collective visual and sonic spectacle that is unique to each performance.
SUPERMOMENTS x Coventry
What does Coventry mean to you? How can we change our city through our actions?
SUPERMOMENTS was trialed at the Coventry Canal Basin on the 13th of November as part of the Random String Festival where the performing participants and the audience explored these questions through an interactive participatory performance using wearable tech. In this version, a group of young local performers and members of the public together embodied and performed the stories told by a group of Coventry residents of their hopes, concerns, and special moments in the city.
